Bayboro
Bayboro was named for the Bay River and settled long before it was incorporated
in 1881. It is the oldest incorporated town in Pamlico County and became the
county seat in 1876. The following year, the courthouse was relocated to Bayboro
from Stonewall. Although narrow, the Bay River is navigable all the way to the

Minnesott
Beach
Developed as a resort area on the Neuse River after World War I, the town’s name
is derived from an Indian word said to mean, “land of sky and blue water.” The
state ferry arrives and departs here bringing passengers to and from the Cherry

Pamlico
Community College currently serves more than 15% of the county’s adult
population, approximately 250-300 curriculum students and 1,600-1,800 continuing
education students per year. PCC is a
fully accredited two year community college with programs in varied disciplines
from Computer Technology to Accounting to Allied Health Programs. A contract
program with East Carolina University enables students in appropriate programs
to transfer on for a four-year education.
